GUATEMALA, El Pais de la Eterna Primavera

Guatemala City

Tikal

Lago de Atitlan

I was born in Guatemala in the most beautiful month of the year..March or course. Some years ago....many years ago... almost half century ago. My country is relatively small to USA. The land area is 108,430 square kilometers and the population almost 14 million.

The weather is nice almost all year. From November to April is Summer time and from May to October is Winter time. My country is called "The Country of Eternal Spring" (El Pais de la Eterna Primavera). The trees are always full of leaves and the rosebushes are always
blooming.

In Guatemala we have beautiful lakes such as Lago de Atitlan, Lago de Izabal and Lago de Peten Itza; incredible volcanos such as Volcan de Agua, Volcan de Fuego, Volcan de Pacaya, etc. and amazing archaeological sites such as Tikal, Quirigua , Zaculeo, etc. and the unique Antigua Guatemala.

Antigua Guatemala

Guatemala is the most modern country of Central America but not the biggest, nor the most literate. The biggest country in Central America is Nicaragua and the most literate is Costa Rica.

Guatemalan people is courteous, kind, warm and most of them with a good sense of humor. We make a joke even with the worst things that happen to us.

Unfortunately, we are passing through the worst crisis we have ever had. There are lack of jobs, the price of food, clothes, education, health....everything is expensive and the salaries are low, we have gangs and a lousy government.

I know all over the world are beautiful, breathtaking and unforgettable places; places where you feel closer to God and I'm pretty sure that you, just like me, in some place of your country feel that way.

  1. Romelia,

You are a beautiful writer and have a way with words. I think you make an excellent storyteller. Your description of Guatemala would make anyone want to experience such a wonderful place. You spoke or lakes and volcanoes and other breathtaking places. Which of these have you been to? Have you traveled around most of the country? Are the summer and winter very different in your country? What are these pictures of? What makes Guatemala more modern? Is it technology, business, something else? Thanks for teaching me so much!

  2. Erin,

Thanks for your nice comments about my writing. My country is beautiful if you have the chance to go some day I encourage you to do so.
I have been in all the lakes I mentioned, but the most beautiful is the Atitlan Lake. Along the shores of Lake Atitlan are twelve very picturesque indigenous towns and three volcanoes.
Yes, I have traveled around Guatemala but there are still a lot places I want to go.
Before global warming the climate of Guatemala was unbeatable, but now in summer is extremely hot and it rains a lot in winter and temperatures are high. The coldest time of the year is in December and January and the hottest March and April.
The pictures I posted are from the most touristic places in Guatemala.
I say that Guatemala is the most modern city in Central America because we have better roads, modern buildings and business.
Thank you. You are a wonderful teacher and I enjoyed your classes and learned a lot too.
